While we are rising and developing our nation, people who are involved in developing nation are suffering from lots of hazardous health diseases

One of such disease is Obesity.

As per a report,

India’s women are more likely to be obese than their male counterparts.

There were 20 million obese women in India in 2014 compared with 9.8 million obese men, according to a study published in the British medical journal, the Lancet.

Worldwide, the number of obese people rose to 641 million in 2014 from 105 million in 1975, according to the study. Global obesity rates almost tripled for men to 11% of the total from 3.2% in 1975, while among women it nearly doubled to 15% from 6.4% in 1975.

Obesity is by definition excess of fat storage rather than weight. Men with more than 25% of total body fat and women with more than 30% total body fat are considered obese.

Symptoms:

The primary warning sign of obesity is an above-average body weight.

If you are obese, you may also experience:

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Sleep apnea. This is a condition in which breathing is irregular and periodically stops during sleep.
  • Shortness of breath
  • Varicose veins
  • Skin problems caused by moisture that accumulates in the folds of your skin.
  • Gallstones


Prevention:

There are a number of steps you can take to help prevent overweight and obesity during childhood and adolescence. (They’ll help you, too!) They include:

  • Gradually work to change family eating habits and activity levels rather than focusing on weight. Change the habits and the weight will take care of itself.
  • Be a role model. Parents who eat healthy foods and are physically activity set an example that increases the likelihood their children will do the same.
  • Encourage physical activity. Children should have an hour of moderate physical activity most days of the week. More than an hour of activity may promote weight loss and subsequent maintenance.
  • Reduce time in front of the TV and computer to less than two hours a day.
  • Encourage children to eat only when hungry, and to eat slowly.
  • Avoid using food as a reward or withholding food as a punishment.
  • Keep the refrigerator stocked with fat-free or low-fat milk and fresh fruit and vegetables instead of soft drinks and snacks high in sugar and fat.
  • Serve at least five servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
  • Encourage children to drink water rather than beverages with added sugar, such as soft drinks, sports drinks and fruit juice drinks.
